Libs need more smarts and more backbone

Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff will have to be considerably more consistent and courageous if he hopes to replace Stephen Harper in the Prime Minister’s office, says Don Martin of the National Post.

In today’s column Martin points out that all parties work hard to shape their message, and Harper is not the only control freak on Parliament Hill. Martin highlights the squelching of Ruby Dhalla (health benefits for new immigrant seniors after three years in Canada), John McKay (regulation of Canadian mining companies operating abroad) and Keith Martin (two-tier health-care).

Liberals show they're the control freaks

The new control freaks on Parliament Hill are a Liberal party where freedoms of expression, dissension and individual legislation have been stripped away in a series of bizarre moves by the party leadership...

This is Exhibit A of Michael Ignatieff retreating from principle under heavy fire from segments of the population who will never vote for him anyway.

Well, I did agree with Ujjal Dosanjh shooting down Keith Martin's old Alliance CRAP ways of advocating American health care here in Canada. I don't think we want Americanized health care, here, even if columnists like those of the NattyPO are just ga ga giddy over it.
