It is funny. Smart.  Ominous as well. Behind every element of humour lies the truth, at least in some form.

 

Check out the video below; it's in French, but the language is simple. What you see is a harpercon election placard from the 2009 by-election in Hochelaga, an east end Montreal riding and Bloc stronghold--Daniel Paille's riding.

The slogan on the placard says "Action, No elections!" That was follow up to Ignatieff's fall "Your time is up!" thing. However, upon speaking to the creater of this video, as well as others with some communications background, this is no copy writing stupidity. It was very much deliberate. It's all part of Harper's modus operandi. He sees the population have a phobia of the polls, he takes advantage. So yeah, I can see him taking away free elections if he ever got that coveted majority. 

 

Something else to consider. I know I'm bringing up an old bogeyman, Hitler--but he never called any subsequent elections following his own in 1932 in Germany.  Just to say that in supposed democratic western societies, it can and has happened.
