Catch 22 replied to Toby Stewart's discussion 'A Brew at the Black Sheep?' in the group Pontiac
OK - Sounds like a plan. Not sure if there's an auto-notify for new threads. I would be coming from Toronto but don't have any "real" plans to come to the NCR in the next few months. Gary

Toby, Having participated in (or been at the receiving end of) the Pontiac debate, I would very much like to join you. Alas, I'm too far away but if I'm in Ottawa around the time, I'll be there. I don't think there's a lot…

Very important that you raised this issue. It is the next big worry for Ontario. Labour unions are much better at seeing this threat than at the Fed level, so maybe we will have some help this time

Within hours of the Federal Results Conservative spokespersons in Ontario were promising a replica of the Harper Campaign here in Ontario. Ontario conservatives are poised to gain power in Ontario's upcoming election and if elected will be able…

I heard on CJAD this morning that Montmagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-RDL will be undergoing a judicial recount as Con incumbent Bernard Genereux only beat the NDP candidate by 5 votes.  Will keep you posted

Catch 22's first look at the election...

This is a high level summary of campaign results in ridings identified by the Catch 22 campaign. Over the coming weekend, we'll publish an editorial. Then in a few weeks we'll put out a more detailed look at our campaign - strengths and weaknesses, what worked and what didn't etc. Once that is done, the campaign will be wrapped up.Obviously, we did not get the overall results we were looking for. With less than a 2% increase in the popular vote, Harper was successful at boosting his seat count…See More

Remember what Harper said, "Just give me a majority government and in a few years you won't recognize Canada." Normally I really like to be right but, in this case, I really hope I am wrong about what Harper will do to make our…

It did, Andrew. It truly did suck. However, now we have five years to build something more and, of course, a provincial election coming up in the next year. Is anyone interested in beating out the provincial Tories?

Jay, I was not successful, unfortunately. So I am glad May didn't need 'my' help, afterall!   Votepair matched me with someone in a non-swing riding with someone equally confused with the match, and they went on to find someone…

Catch 22

Help your local Catch 22 campaign "pull the vote" on Monday

While I've never run for public office, I have run for several union positions over the past 25 years. Having both won and lost elections by just a single vote, I can tell you how important every last vote can be. In the case where I lost, it was because of a mistake made by my scrutineer (yes, we're still friends).

We have to treat tomorrow's election as if every single vote could be the deciding vote between a minority and a phony majority…

Catch 22

Voting Your Heart May Hand Harper his Majority

Unlike the Toronto Star,* the Catch 22 Campaign still thinks it necessary to vote Liberal in those ridings where a Liberal is the obvious choice to defeat a Harper Conservative.

*Edited to add: The Toronto Star is now recommending strategic voting for the Liberals in certain… Continue

Catch 22

"The descent of democracy: A country under one man’s thumb"

There's an excellent article by Lawrence Martin on iPolitics.ca about Harper's methods, and how they've "brought Canadian democracy to new lows."

...The case for painting Harper as an anti-democrat stems from dozens of actions, catalogued below. They can be roughly divided into three categories: Treatment of the parliamentary process; degree of information control; intimidation of…
