One point Brian Topp made last week in an all candidate's meeting (with Nikki Ashton) in Toronto was that Liberals in (not sure if he was describing Saskatchewan, Ottawa or Canada) would, if their choice to vote Liberal removed, vote Conservative.

I looked at a few of the polls at http://www.sfu.ca/~aheard/elections/polls.html to see if any poll for second choice preferences, but didn't see any. This site also notes that preference can be very fluid, so it may be hard to know what might happen.

Another avenue would be to see if there are any precedents for pre-election coalitions in other jurisdictions with remotely similar voting systems. Do you know of any?
