Activist group reacts to Canada's failure to secure Security Council seat

An activist group Ceasefire (www.ceasefire.ca) which concentrates on Canadian foreign policy issues received a ton of responses to the failure at the UN. Some of the postings include a call for change of government. All the comments I saw were negative. I see potential recruits for Catch 22. I posted a comment of my own promoting Catch 22 (and also Fair Vote Canada of which I am also a member.

what gives with recent poll showing Conservatives going up again

Does anybody know why, with all the issues which I thought worked against Harper, is the recent Ekos poll (spelling?) showing a gain in Conservative support. Canadians are suppose to be a decent people less individualistic than Americans and yet are showing more support for a prime minister who is pushing for so many issues that i thought were alien to Canadian culture. Need i list all the controversies from this summer and before. Or are we just a bunch of puppets.

Hi Bob. Nice to hear from you, and glad that you will help out in Linda's campaign. I joined Catch 22 because I support cooperation at the federal level as much as I support it on the provincial level. But because I'm co-chair of the DRP, which is focused on provincial politics, I'll have to be parsimonious with my time on Catch 22.

As you likely know by now, our plan is to do careful consideration of winnable constituencies in the next provincial election and make a recommendation for strategic voters as to who the most winnable provincial candidate will be. I hope that you will get involved in doing the assessments in one of the Calgary constituencies.

Of course the same work needs to be done in federal ridings. In Edmonton, there's no reason why the NDP should not be able to win Edmonton East (except that Ray Martin is running again, and is a boring candidate!) or the Liberals win Edmonton Centre. The federal Tories are less popular in Edmonton than they were in the last federal election. But that growing unpopularity will be meaningless unless the opposition vote is focused on someone or the other in each seat.

The federal Greens by the way offered indirectly (via me!) to support Linda Duncan in the election (not just not run a candidate but support her!) if the NDP would not run a candidate against Elizabeth May. I was turned down flat, but then I suppose if the offer was serious it would have come from the Greens directly. I assume they just wanted me to feel out the possibilities.

Take care.

Alvin

Sorry, I can't even see the PDF you could copy and paste into the comments, I suppose.

I would like to see that comment. Harper and his ilk are trying to destroy this country.

Hello Bob,

I am so fed up with the whole lot of them! Libs or Cons, they are all equally bad. I am ready to run against the whole system! I just don't know where to start.
