I just did some computations about what happened in the 2008 election in our riding.

Only 54.6% of the 79,149 registerd voters bothered to cast a ballot.

That translates to 35, 933 people who did not vote.

On the other hand :

The conservatives got 14,023 votes

The liberals got 10,396 votes

The Bloc got 9,576 votes

In other words, more people were no-shows than voted for the three leading candidates !!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE ???

It is imperative that we get the word out so that more people cast a ballot.

I plan to send an e-mail to everyone that I know in the Pontiac riding with these facts so that they make sure that they vote and i will also encourage them to pass the word out to their friends.

I am also toying with the idea of a Facebook page

Any suggestions??

Great idea Pierre!

We could do a Facebook event for May 2, 2011

Ideas for a name...Pontiac can make a difference! or Let's unseat Cannon!!

subheading: Vote for Cindy!!! or Vote Liberal!! or Vote Cindy Duncan McMillan!! or just VOTE!

Then all your stats above can go underneath. I have some youth vote incentive material, but I think that the non-voters were probably grown-ups because there are very few youth in Pontiac, or at least in my section (Pontiac MRC). I have tons of stuff on Facebook already to support the case for ABC.

The Catch 22 site as well as all of the other strategic voting sites are not reflecting the reality of the Pontiac. I have written a few emails to them, forwarding all of the statistics from the 2008 election, the history of voting in the Pontiac (We never have the NDP coming in second! Where did they get that??), but no response. I guess we are a low priority, but we really shouldn't be because there are many Liberal supporters and if we can get rid of Cannon, that would be huge!
