Questions raised this week about Oshawa MP Colin Carrie distributing more than $2,000 in political campaign donations in the run-up to last fall's municipal election might make great political hay, but don't speak in any way to subversion or a co-opting of the democratic political process. Not pleased to see Morton step in at this point. Liberals claim that a vote for anyone else is a vote for Harper, but that is obviously not true in Oshawa. They undermine their own logic by campaigning here.

James Morton would have been an excellent candidate in a riding where the Liberals were in contention. I would love to have seen him nominated a year ago in an area where he lives, where he could have mounted a serious campaign. The only reason he would have agreed to be a last-minute candidate in Oshawa is that he is a loyal Liberal and they had no candidate.

Oshawa Liberals have nominated James Morton, former President of the Ontario Bar association as their candidate. I think he'd make an excellent member of Parliament, and might be just the guy to take down the ReformaTory in this riding

"We do not have a Liberal candidate in Oshawa yet and we don't have a nomination meeting planned at this time," said Stuart Smith, president of the Oshawa Federal Liberal Association. "But we are planning on running an aggressive campaign, we're looking forward to an election."

By contrast, Chris Buckley, president of CAW Local 222 since 2004, was nominated by the NDP 18 months ago.

In 2008 the Liberals ran token candidates in Vancouver Island North (4.2%), Saskatoon--Rosetown--Biggar (4.4%), and a few other ridings where the NDP had the best shot. Could Oshawa be another this time?
