It's Tuesday, May 3. My local MP, Linda Duncan, defeated her Conservative opponent by more than 6,000 votes (she won by less than 500 votes in 2008). That's good. Linda is an impressive MP and I wish her well.
On the other hand, Harper will lead a majority Conservative government. I hope I've misjudged the risk to Canada's democracy. I hope the Conservatives' fundamentalist capitalism leaves some room for listening, for compassion.
Thank-you to all who shared their views and their hopes on this forum. Now we need your hope and determination for a better Canada more than ever.
best regards,
Mark,

Comment by Alvin Finkel on March 29, 2011 at 12:31am Hi Everyone: I've volunteered to be the administrator for the Edmonton-Strathcona group. I'm organizing a meetup for the group's members at some commercial establishment (location TBD). I've created a poll for people to indicate a preference for when to hold the event: http://www.doodle.com/uauhcw8m9q34i2yw. The poll offers choices for this coming Thursday evening and Saturday. Please select all that work for you.
If you have questions about the E-S group, this website or Catch 22 in general, I'll try to find answers. To contact me, click on my name and on the resulting page click on the "Send a Message" link.
cheers,
Mark

Comment by Catch 22 on March 28, 2011 at 8:55pm Could someone organize a Catch 22 meeting in Edmonton. We just successfully used Skype to participate in the Ottawa meeting this evening. This online E-S group (and others like it) have been created to let people network, share and organize.Encourage your friends to join!

Comment by Russell Bryant on March 28, 2011 at 8:48pm In many issues such as the Expo 2017, Linda was the ONLY MP to speak up for Alberta. The current environment in the Conservative caucus discourages Conservative MPs to speak up and represent their constituents when it is not politically expedient. Alberta is the political football, being taken for granted.
This is the kind of argument that should resonate with most people, regardless of their political stripes. In Edmonton Strathcona, it is either Harper or Linda Duncan. When put the average voter I think that people will support her.
